Brig. Gen. Y. D. Ahmed has been named the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps with the approval of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.).

According to The Punch, on Monday, he will formally replace Christy Uba, who oversaw the operations of the NYSC for roughly three months.

The Presidency appointed Brig. Gen. Uba, the most senior director, after Brig. Gen. Mohammed Fadah was fired for apparent inefficiency and subpar performance.

The NYSC announced the promotion of its Director of Information and Communications Technology on November 22, 2022.

Its acting director-general is Christy Uba.

As the first woman to be named to the NYSC since its founding approximately 50 years ago, she created history.

Brigadier General Muhammad Kaku Fadah was fired as the DG by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, according to the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa (retd.)

“Mrs. Uba to oversee NYSC till the nomination of substantive Director General,” read the announcement.

In the interim until Mr. President appoints a formal Director General, the most senior Director in the scheme has assumed oversight of the corps, according to Megwa.

About 48 hours after being hired, Uba had pledged to raise the organization’s visibility by restoring its status.

She claimed, however, that after spending a lot of time in the organization, there was nothing novel to be enthused about.

In an interview with journalists conducted after the opening ceremony of the 2022 combined press and public relations, protocol officers, and Freedom of Information desk officers workshop with the theme “Enhancing the corporate image of NYSC: Quintessential role of Public Relation officers,” Uba, the Director Overseeing the NYSC, said as much.
