The Federal Government of Nigeria has handed over the Federal Government Technical College to the Edo State government.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, in a statement via his Special Adviser on Media Projects to the state government, Crusoe Osagie, said that the state is now in full control of the institution which is now a campus of the Edo-State University, Uzairue.

Obaseki said that the reason for the delay in adoption of the property was because of the need to organise and finalise all handover documentation.

This, he stated while he was accompanied on a college inspection by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Oviawe.

In his words, “The facility has been handed over to us by the Federal Government and we are in full control and will put it to proper use. The delay in documentation has to do with clarity on ownership of the facilities which has been sorted. We are ready to make the necessary investments. Before March 2023, you will see work starting here.”

He added that in order to secure the institution’s property and community, the state government will set up military and police installations.

Dr. Oviawe, the Commissioner for Education, said that the Governor Obaseki-led administration had turned the college into a campus of Edo State University, Uzairue.

The commissioner mentioned that the building will focus on education, development studies, and agriculture. It was also noted that Governor Obaseki had hired contractors to build the school’s access road.

According to her, “The technical school students here will be moved to the technical school along Ehor Road. The school has some equipment that aligns with the state’s strategy on Technical and Vocational Education Training and the facilities will also be upgraded to reflect the new policy direction.
