The University of Benin has been named the 2023 recipient of Rwanda’s Africa Excellent University Award of the Year.
The university’s vice chancellor, Prof. Lilian Salami, was also recognized as an Africa Pillar of Education for her contributions to the advancement of education on the continent.
The awards were presented at the first Africa Education Summit, which took place at the University of Rwanda in Kigali, according to a statement made by the organization’s public relations officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, on Saturday in Benin.
Prof. Salami, according to Ehanire, was the Vice President of the Association of African Universities, which has its headquarters in Ghana, in addition to serving as the chair of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities.
The vice-chancellor had used this position, according to the public relations officer, to protect and promote the accomplishments of several African universities, including the University of Benin.
