WapTV has won the “Outstanding Indigenous TV Channel of the Year” at the 2022 Marketing Edge Awards.

The event held on Friday, September 16, 2022, at the Harbour Point Hall, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The station received two honors at two different events: “Best Family Entertainment TV Channel” at the Kaduna International Film Festival and “Indigenous TV Station of the Year” at the Top Society Man of the Year Awards. The award ceremony took place just weeks after both of these recognitions.

Wale Adenuga (Jnr), the station’s managing director, expressed gratitude for the honor by saying, “We are nothing without our viewers. When our presenters started speaking 100 per cent pidgin English on air, it was out of a need to reach the majority of Nigerians across various educational levels and socio-economic classes. We appreciate the millions of viewers who watch our channel on satellite TV, as well as the over 500,000 subscribers on our YouTube channel, which accumulates over 2.8 million views monthly.”

The station, which debuted in 2012, is a 24-hour family entertainment channel that airs TV comedies, drama series, English, Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa-language Nigerian movies, reality shows, live events, music videos, celebrity interviews, and other programs.
