Ogun State Police Command, on Friday said it has arrested eight suspects as hoodlums invaded Yobo village, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the State.
According to Daily Post, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this while confirming the arrest in a statement on Friday, noting that the gunmen had invaded the house of one Wakili Olalekan in Yobo village.
The hoodlums who were reportedly armed with AK-47 and other weapons had planned to attack the village.
Odutola explained that the Divisional Police Officer of Ibogun, acting on a distress call from a community member, mobilised his men to the scene.
“The hoodlums were reportedly invited by Olusesan Ogaode, also residing at the same address,” Odutola stated.
In foiling the attack, the PPRO disclosed that the police officers from Ibogun effectively cordoned off the entire area.
“As a result of their efforts, eight suspected hoodlums were apprehended,” he told.
The police spokesprtson said the eight arrested men include Adebila Adebayo, 32; Kola Amosun, 35; Abiola Lanre, 20; Fakeye Gabriel, 30; Lekan Adeleye, 15y; Adewale Ogaode, 26; Oluwasesan Ogaode, 25; Vincent Mercy, 20; and Ajibade Rachael, 19.
Odutola said, “They had planned to go to carry out an attack on the village but the superior intelligence of the police countered their plans leading to their arrest.”
One unregistered white Highlander, one unregistered Green Mazda 626 Saloon car, one live AK-47 ammunition, two live cartridges, two knives and charms were reportedly recovered from the men.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered that preliminary investigations be carried out, while suspects will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
