The Delta State Task Force on Counterfeit, Fake Drugs, and Unwholesome Processed Foods has taken action by closing down 57 patent medicine stores in Asaba and its surroundings.
According to Daily Trust, the task force’s Secretary, Pharmacist Felix Emeye, disclosed this following a two-day operation aimed at eliminating substandard processed foods from the state.
The affected stores were situated on various roads, including Okpanam Road, Marble Hill, Specialist Hospital Road, Ibusa Road, Bonsac, Oduke, and others.
The closures were a result of several violations, such as selling medicines without a license, operating without official approval, failure to display a license to sell medicine, and other related offenses.
Emeye also highlighted additional infringements by the patent medicine dealers, including the sale of medicines from unregistered locations, peddling medicines, making disease-cure advertisements, and vending medicines lacking National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control registration numbers.
