Nigerian-Romanian broadcaster and radio talk show host, Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has recounted his encounter with the private jet that overshot the runway in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Friday.
Daddy Freeze in a viral video recalled he had earlier seen the plane on his way from Akure, Ondo State where it was parked with suspected fault.
This was in a reaction to the reports that a private jet with 10 persons onboard has crash-landed in Ibadan.
The jet with registration N580KR, Friday, overshot the runway at the Ladoke Akintola Airport and missed the runway into the nearby bush.
In his reaction, Daddy Freeze disputed what the media report described as ‘crashlanding’ noting that it was an overshot on the runway.
Daddy Freeze said, “I saw a media report that a private jet crashlanded in Ibadan. To me, it doesn’t look like a crashlanding. It looked like an overshooting on the runway.
“On Tuesday, I went for a function in Ekiti, on leaving, I wanted to use the airport in Akure. I saw the exact private jet parked on the runway. I noticed something unusual about the plane and I recorded the video.
“I saw the reverse thruster on the right engine harmed while while the plane is stationary. From my understanding of the aviation, I’m suspecting there is a fault to the reverse thruster.
“We waited at the airport. There was a bit delay and we waited though not much, You know Airpeace now, throughout the the time, the engine of the private jet was on and the reverse thruster was activated. It is unusual. It shouldn’t be so.
“I noticed some aeronautic engineers were working on the reverse thruster.
While showing the video he recorded, Daddy Freeze said, “When we were going to our plane which is Airpeace, the flight was supposed to take off by 12:30 but we left by 2pm., there was a bit delayed. We walked past the private jet to our plane.
“What does the reverse thruster do? When plane land it uses three types of breaking system. It is the reverse thruster that stop the flow of air to slow down the plane.
“So what could have happened to the jet in my own understanding is that the reverse thruster is not working properly and maybe the plane could not stop in time. It has to overshoot the runway.”
