Super Eagles and Atalanta star, Ademola Lookman, has emphasized the importance of his club playing in the UEFA Champions League next season, as reported by Napoli Magazine.
Atalanta improved their chances of securing a place in Europe’s Champions League competition with a 2-0 victory over Empoli on Sunday night.
Lookman scored Atalanta’s second goal with a brilliant solo effort, marking his 11th goal of the campaign for La Dea. The winger has also provided seven assists across all competitions.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side currently sits in sixth position in Serie A, two points behind AS Roma, who hold fifth place.
Italy will present five teams in the UEFA Champions League next season, which means Atalanta must overtake Roma in the table before the end of the season to achieve their objective.
“This victory(against Empoli) is very important because we have to reach the Champions League. We also have commitments in the Italian Cup and the Europa League, winning today was important,” Lookman said as per Napoli Magazine.
“Roma are a strong team but so are we. We know that every match is difficult but we are ready to try to win them all,” Lookman said.
Atalanta will face basement club, Salernitana in their next league game.
