The police in Edo State have apprehended two individuals, Osamudiamen Jonah and Michael Agboola, in connection with the alleged theft of N1 million from the bank account of one Prince Sylvester.
The state’s police spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, disclosed that Prince Sylvester had reported the incident to the Ugbegun Division.
He claimed that the suspects had attacked and robbed him of his phone and ATM card on Erediauwa Road, off Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City.
Subsequently, it was revealed that the suspects withdrew N1 million from the victim’s bank account.
They have reportedly confessed to being members of an armed robbery gang known for terrorizing the Ugbekun axis.
During an interview with journalists, one of the suspects, Osamudiamen Jonah, denied being part of an armed robbery gang.
He stated that he and the victim were both members of the Eiye confraternity, a campus-based confraternity in Nigeria.
Jonah elaborated on the incident, explaining that they had encountered the victim and inquired about why he had not celebrated his birthday since joining their confraternity. The victim claimed he had left their area.
To rectify this, they asked the victim to celebrate his birthday with them, which led to a visit to an ATM where the victim withdrew and gave them N30,000. However, another member named Victor deemed the amount insufficient.
Subsequently, Victor discovered there was N2 million in the victim’s account. He took possession of the victim’s ATM
