Teams who participated at the on going FIFA World Cup in Qatar are expected to share the sum of $440 million.
The tournament which ends on Sunday evening will be keenly contested by the Lionel Messi led team, Argentina against French team who will be hoping to retain the trophy they won in Croatia four years ago.
32 teams representing different nations from around the world competed in the 2022 tournament.
Thirteen European nations, five African teams, four North American nations, four South American nations, and six Asian nations.
Qatar, Ecuador, Wales, Iran, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Tunisia, Canada, Belgium, Germany, Costa Rica, Serbia, Cameroon, Ghana, and Uruguay were among the teams that were eliminated from the World Cup in the group stage. Each of these teams received $9 million.
USA, Senegal, Australia, Poland, Spain, Japan, Switzerland, and South Korea were the teams that advanced to the round of 16, and they each received $13 million.
Brazil, the Netherlands, Portugal, and England, who made it to the quarterfinals, each received $17 million.
Fourth place team Morocco, earned $25 million
Third-placed team Croatia earned $27 million
The winner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup will receive $42 million, with the runner-up between France and Argentina receiving $30 million.
This is an increase of $40 million from the competition in 2018.
Before 2006, World Cup champions were never paid more than $10 million, with Italy’s victory in 1982 earning them an estimated $2.2 million.
