No fewer than 470 motorcycles were seized in a week-long operation by the Lagos State Taskforce.
In a statement sent to The PUNCH, the spokesperson for the agency, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, said the task force was led by its chairman CSP Shola Jejeloye
The state government had banned the operation of commercial motorcycles to guarantee safety on major highways.
Last November, 1,500 seized motorcycles were destroyed on the Lagos State Task Force premises in Oshodi following the clampdown by the state government on okada operators said to have returned to the roads.
Abdulraheem, in the Sunday statement, said, “The operation, spanning various strategic locations, including Berger, Fagba, Dopemu, Iyana Ipaja, 2nd Rainbow, FESTAC, First Gate, Alakija, Mile 2, Ilasan, Maroko, Lekki, Ikota, and Chevron, resulted in the confiscation of 150, 120, and 250 motorcycles, respectively, from these areas.”
He quoted the Chairman, Jejeloye, as saying, “Any right-thinking okada operator would, at this point in time, realise that it is no longer business as usual. Our operations have been precise and consistent which indicates that there is no room for okada in Lagos.”
Jejeloye emphasised the unwavering commitment of the state government to eradicate Okada operations, aligning with the master plan outlined in the THEMES PLUS Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
