A Federal High court in Maiduguri, Borno State has sentenced a 24-year-old man, Muhammad Abubakar, to four years imprisonment.
This was disclosed by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons on Tuesday via a press statement on its official Facebook page.
It was gathered that Abubakar was convicted on two counts of trafficking, procuring one victim, and having sexual relations with her.
As obtained, the charge against him was filed by the personnel of NAPTIP at the Federal High Court sitting in Maiduguri on the 24th of June, 2022 and was convicted by Justice Jude Dakat of the Federal High Court, Maiduguri in Borno State.
The statement partly reads, “The charge was filed at the Federal High Court in Maiduguri, Borno State, on June 24, 2022. The convict was sentenced to four years imprisonment on a two charges of trafficking and procuring one victim, as well as having sexual relations with her; an offence punishable under sections 13 and 16 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 as Amended.”
