The National Emergency Management Agency has advised Lagos residents on the need to exercise restraint during and after the rainfall season.
According to The PUNCH, torrential rainfall witnessed in parts of Lagos State on Thursday left many roads, houses and shops flooded.
This has resulted in floods both in the mainland and the highlands.
Roads in Ikeja, Ogba, Agege, Abule-Egba, Iyana-Ipaja, Meiran, and Egbeda-Idimu were flooded in the mainland region of the state.
The flood situation has resulted in heavy traffic as the road has become unmotorable.
A resident who only gave his name as John said that the flooding on the Lagos-Abeokuta Motorway made driving difficult.
“It was a standstill situation around Alakuko because of the bad spots on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
“Since flood had covered all the potholes on the road, motorists had to be cautious in order not to be stranded inside the flood,” John said.
Another resident, Temilola Ajayi, said, “The government should make sure the process of clearing the drainages is well monitored. Most of the dirt being pulled out from the drainages is often left beside it and in a matter of days, they make their way back into it.”
