Farmers from the Ago Owu Government Farm Settlement, on Tuesday staged a protest at the Osun State Government Secretariat to cry out over invasion of herdsmen.
The Ago-Owu Government Farm Settlements is located in Ikoyi, Isokan Local Government Area area of the state.
Their protest was said to be against the rising insecurity and incessant attacks from Fulani herders in the area.
The farmers who brandished placards with several inscription called on the state government to come to their rescue as their productivity was being affected.
One of the farmers, identified as Jimoh Rahmon, told journalists that the situation has become unbearable.
“We have been constantly harassed and threatened by Fulani herdsmen. Ours is a farm settlement established by the state government.
“We call on the state government to accede to our request and come to our help. We are being attacked and this was not so before now.
“Our farm produce are being affected. Cattles just invade out farmlands, destroy and consume our crops.
“We don’t have arms to defend ourselves because these Fulani herdsmen are sometimes armed but we want the state government to provide us with security and protection.
“We are farmers and we love what we are doing.”
As at the time of filing this report, the state had not reacted to the protest.
The protesting framers stated that they are also protesting against the Olukoyi of Ikoyi, Oba Taofeeq Morenigbade, who they accused of creating problems for them.
